What is single jersey fabric?
Single jersey nylon spandex fabric is a weft knit made on one set of needles, so one face shows V-shaped loops and the reverse shows loop arcs. It is lighter and more drapable than a two-sided knit such as interlock, but the loop geometry leaves internal tension: cut edges tend to curl, loops can unravel, and the fabric can skew (spirality) after washing.
For activewear, nylon contributes strength and abrasion resistance while spandex supplies stretch and recovery. Because single jersey is thinner than a two-sided knit at the same weight, opacity and elastic recovery should be verified on the actual grade rather than assumed from gsm alone. D522 in this family is a 270 gsm, 130 cm wide 88% nylon / 12% spandex waffle single jersey.

Single Jersey Fabric FAQ
What is single jersey fabric?
Single jersey is a weft knit made on one set of needles. One side shows V-shaped loops and the other shows loop arcs, which makes the fabric light, stretchy and drapable. The same loop geometry gives it internal tension, so cut edges curl and the surface can skew after washing.
What is the difference between single jersey and interlock?
Single jersey uses one set of needles; interlock uses two sets of needles knitting two interlocked layers. Interlock is thicker, flatter and more stable at the edges, with better opacity under stretch. Single jersey is lighter and drapes more, but needs more care in cutting, sewing and heat-setting.
Why does single jersey curl at the edges?
The face and reverse of a single jersey have different loop geometry, which builds tension into the fabric. When the edge is cut, the loops try to return to a balanced state and roll. Controlled cutting tension, appropriate needle selection and heat-setting during finishing reduce the problem but do not change the structure.
Is single jersey suitable for leggings?
It can be, but opacity and recovery must be checked on the actual grade. Light single jersey can grin through under squat tension, and a loose structure may not recover at the knee and seat. For critical squat-proof programs, a denser grade or a two-sided knit such as interlock is usually the safer starting point.
